Research Keywords
I am an epidemiologist with experience in large cohorts, behavioral interventions, clinical trials, assessment of medical tests, and teaching quantitative methods. Much of my primary research focuses on getting answers that matter to women and their care providers related to adverse pregnancy outcomes, uterine fibroids, pelvic floor disorders, and thyroid disease. I also serve in cross-cutting roles in policy-relevant areas including health services, health outcomes, evidence-based practice, systematic reviews, cost analysis, informed medical decision-making, and comparative effectiveness.
Clinical Research Keywords
Epidemiology, data safety monitoring, diagnostic tests, behavioral interventions, smoking cessation, substance use intervention, health services research, outcomes research, comparative effectiveness, patient reported outcomes, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, informed medical decision making, reproductive epidemiology, contraception, pregnancy, miscarriage, preterm birth, cesarean birth, uterine fibroids, pelvic floor disorders

Postdoctoral Fellow in Reproductive and Genetic Epidemiology

Description: We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow intent on a career in academic research to join the Reproductive and Genetic Epidemiology group in the Vanderbilt Epidemiology Center and Women’s Health Research at Vanderbilt. The ideal applicant will have experience with large-scale genetics analysis with a diverse data types such as GWAS data, whole exome chip data, or sequencing data (whole exome, genome, or targeted) as well as experience with time to event analyses for reproductive outcomes such as conception, miscarriage, and preterm birth.

A significant portion of the research conducted in our group focuses on gene-by-drug interaction with an eye towards applications in precision medicine; racial and ethnic disparities often in the context of admixture mapping; and use of large databases that link clinical information to DNA to address a spectrum of women’s health research including pregnancy, uterine fibroids, endocrine dysfunction, and sex and gender differences in disease mechanisms. There are multiple opportunities to lead projects and to participate in large-scale consortium studies. The projected start date is flexible with intent to have the position filled by Fall 2016.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Epidemiology, Human Genetics, Statistical Genetics, or related field

• Firm grounding in reproductive physiology and pregnancy outcomes

• Background in genetic analysis (e.g. GWAS, CNV, or sequencing data)

• Familiarity with statistical software and programming languages (e.g. Stata, R, SAS, SPSS) and UNIX operating system

• Familiarity with PLINK, IMPUTE2, SNPtest, and admixture mapping genetics analysis software is desirable but not required

• Ability to learn new techniques and implement new software tools

• Record of authorship of peer reviewed publications is required; experience with grant development is desirable

• Strong initiative, multitasking ability, and desire to lead projects
